Logos for Utopia
“Logos for Utopia” is a book + exhibition I put together for Harvest Records here in Asheville. Similar to my previous solo show, “Yesterday’s Blues”, the book component contained drawings that were in orbit of the larger paintings and prints on display. This time around, I wanted the book to provide a link / narrative between the drawings. They books were risographed and hand-bound in Chicago alongside my best buds Jake and Clare of Sunroom.
The few paintings and sculptures I made in tandem with the book were heavily abstracted compared to the illustration style of the book. The concept of “Logos for Utopia” came to me when thinking about my painting practice in comparison to my otherwise collaborative visual projects, which sometimes includes actual logos. The title is meant to be romantic and possibly contradictory; sometimes similar to the role of "design" in an artist's brain.
